Week One - - - Day Two
Your Present of the Present
A human body with a human mind
Awareness and Movement and Learning
This is another fun day, another day of standing.
And doing something different in order to notice something different.
Call it learning (the noticing of a difference that makes a difference)
Call it transformation (doing something different to open up the new and better in you)
Call it an adventure.
Don’t call it anything, but just plunge in and enjoy life:
Movement and awakening exercise #1
Stand up and walk to the next room.
Take a deep breath
Touch a wall in the next room
Feel your feet as you walk back to this book
It’s silly, perhaps?
Here’s a possible truth:
SILLINESS IS NEXT TO GODLINESS
WALKING HELPS US REMEMBER WHAT IT IS TO BE ALIVE AND TO BE HUMAN
So, up we go.
Walk to the next room.
Touch the wall, etc.
I’ve discovered that life is much more real and easy when I’m present.
I’ve also discovered that to counteract my love of thinking, having attention in my body is a great way to be present.
That it feels great to be present in my body.
How about you?
Let’s discover some more about the now of you in your body:
Movement and Awareness of “Now” Exercise #2:
Put both arms above your head.
Hold gently your left wrist with your right hand.
Pull the left arm gently toward a higher length.
Feel this movement and pull and gentleness in:
Both legs from hip to all ten toes
Both arms from shoulder blades to all ten fingers
Shift slowly your weight so it is primarily on your left foot.
Enjoy this and feel both arms to your fingertips. Feel yourself lengthening towards the “heavens,” whatever they are.
Sense your legs down to your ankles down to your feet and toes.
Have some fun and visualize the “grounded” energy descending into the Earth below you, either right under your feet, or under whatever floor you are on, visualize your “grounded” energy going five or ten or twenty feet into the Earth.
Gravity is always there.
The Earth is always there.
Plugging our perceived or imagine “energy” into the Earth helps us connect with what Life on Earth is all about.
Now for differences that makes a difference, aka “learning.”
You might not know how to verbally describe this.
In fact, better not to.
But your brain is using these differences and increasing neural pathways about what it is like for your body to shift your weight on this planet Earth.
After a bit, shift slowly so your weight in primarily on your right foot.
Again: sense all of both legs and both arms.
Again, arms as if up into the “heavens.”
Again, legs, especially the weighted leg, down five, ten, twenty feet into the Earth.
Going back and forth several times
Rest by dropping your arms and shaking out a bit
What difference do you notice?
Walk a bit, noticing the marvel of arms and legs and standing and being in a human body.
Marvel at how much real estate / territory/ us is in our arms and legs.
Realize how much enjoyment we’ve had in our lives with these arm and leg glories.
Now we add on breathing:
Movement and Awareness of “the Present” exercise/ game #3
Stand as before.
Hold the other wrist with the other hand.
Lengthen again gently.
This time, as before, shift your weight from foot to foot,
again “grounding” down into the earth,
with the addition:
At each place, weight to the right, or weight to the left, take in three deep breaths.
Notice your breathing in
Your nose or mouth, or both
(PS Breathing in through your nose is recommended)
Go back and forth several times, enjoying at each stop:
Arms and legs
Feeling the difference of where your weight is
The delight and fullness of a deep and easy breath
Let down your arms.
Maybe wiggle or pace a bit.
Feel your body as a three layered marvel.
Below the navel.
Navel to your neck.
About your neck.
Now we add in the top layer, in a small but mighty dose:
Movement and Awareness of “the Present” exercise/ game #4
Take one of your wrists with the other hand.
Do one round of left/ right/ 3 breaths at each place
Switch which hand holds which wrist
As you shift, do it two ways:
Going to the right, look to the right by turning your head
Going to the left, look to the left by turning your head
Going to the right, look to your left by turning your head
Going to the left, look to your right by turning your head
Each way, breathing deeply each time you shift your weight.
TOO MANY WORDS.
SENSE YOUR BODY.
IF YOU ARE AWARE, THERE IS NO “DOING IT WRONG.”
WHAT CHILD DOESN’T LIKE TO PLAY AROUND WITH THEIR BODY.
BE LIKE A LITTLE CHILD TO ENTER THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN
Notice the difference head looking the same way as your weight is shifted
and head looking the opposite way
Keep in awareness
Earth and below the Earth below
What you are seeing
This is a lot
and there’s lots more.
Tomorrow we’ll add a smile.
And some games with the eyes.
And some beginning background on where all this slow and varied learning saturated movement comes from.
And just with these starting two days you could change your life.
What do we have?
GRATITUDE as the reminder to the glories of our life.
AWARENESS OF OUR BODIES at three levels in movement and in “the present”
How wonderful to be alive.
How wonderful to have gratitude and “the present” in our bodies as places to put our attention.
As ways to “wake up” to the real us inside the busy and conditioned us.
And, if you have any words in your head saying, “I’m not doing this right,” tell them you are doing this with learning.
Not to be right.
Not to avoid being wrong.
What it is to have breath and eyes and arms and legs and the awareness to notice them.
What is awareness?
Ah, what a wonderful bit of wonderment to wonder.
WHAT INDEED IS THIS MIRACLE OF AWARENESS?????
